In the summer of 2023, DLL member Jessica Emery Troise and her husband came home to a nightmare. Their house was on fire. “The damage and restoration has turned our lives upside down,” says Jessica. “But the support from my colleagues and manager has been absolutely heart-warming. Thanks to DLL, I can set the work-life balance I need in this challenging time. No words can fully express my appreciation.”
Telling the DLL story
A job in DLL communications is the perfect fit for Jessica. As a child, she loved to read and write. That passion took her to East Carolina University where she studied communications and public relations.
“My job is to tell the DLL story, and every day is different,” says Jessica. “One day I’m interviewing a customer for an article. The next I’m writing a press release or social posts about a DLL product. The next day I’m organizing a media interview with one of our business leaders. I love the diversity and connecting with people.”
Some things are irreplaceable
Jessica enjoys telling the DLL narrative. But the fire drastically changed her own story. It started in her kitchen where everything burnt to a crisp. Further, the whole house filled up with smoke and everything was covered in ash. “We are so thankful that Foles, our very smart pup, hid upstairs and was unharmed,” says Jessica. “Everything else is replaceable.”
Also irreplaceable is the support she received. “My amazing colleagues at DLL were so caring,” says Jessica. “We feel beyond lucky in so many ways. Together with my manager, they gave me the time I needed to figure out the next steps. People talk about work-life balance regarding vacation and leave, but I am especially thankful for all their support in these circumstances.”
